Friends & Neighbors,

This has been an incredible challenging time for our community, our state, and our country.

My dear friends, Melissa and Mark Hortman, were murdered and my colleagues and his family, John Hoffman, was attacked in an unprecedented act of political violence.

Children in our South Minneapolis community were killed and injured in the tragic, senseless Annunciation shooting.

Lawless federal agents occupied our city, ripping families apart and killing a mother, Renee Good, and a VA nurse, Alex Pretti, all in service of a federal government hellbent on attacking Minnesota and undermining our constitutional guarantees.

This year has been a lifetime for all of us, but we've shown resilience, relentless resolve, incredible bravery and heroic acts of compassion.

While our state and nation have endured many hardships over the years, few have tested us as profoundly as this past year. History will long remember the way our community responded.

With grace, grit, and determination, we've shown the world the best of our city and begun the process of saving our democracy.

I'm proud to be your friend, your neighbor, your Senator in this work.

2026 Accomplishments

Stabilized HCMC and healthcare access: Passed emergency funding to ensure HCMC and other critical hospitals keep their doors open and provide the critical care Minnesotans depend on.

$125 million in property tax relief: As the cost of living continues to rise, hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans will receive more relief this year.

$40 million for family homelessness prevention and emergency rental assistance: In response to Metro Surge we passed significant emergency assistance funding to help families pay their rent.

$100 million in Housing Infrastructure Bonds: This is a critical step in addressing Minnesota's housing crisis and improve affordability.

$1.2B Bonding Bill: Invested in critical statewide infrastructure projects that will create jobs and spur economic development.

Passed the strongest anti-fraud laws in state history: Created an independent Office of the Inspector General, strengthened the Attorney General's Medicaid fraud unit, and passed other reforms to safeguard public dollars and ensure program integrity.

Senate District 61 Wins

Support for Small Businesses (2023): $120 million in loans, grants, and micro grants to small businesses in the metro.

Medical Cannabis: Improved patient access to and affordability of medical cannabis.

HOPE ACT: Bridge designs now required to have suicide prevention measures taken into account statewide.

Over $18 Million in Bonding Dollars: Funding secured for Minneapolis College, the Bridge for Youth Center, the St. David's Center, and the Berger Fountain in Loring Park.

The Work Ahead

House Republicans blocked Senate efforts on several key issues. We will keep fighting for Minnesotans.

ICE Accountability, Justice, & Economic Relief: Strengthened protections for Minnesotan's against federal overreach and provided emergency aid for communities affected by Metro Surge.

Comprehensive Gun Violence Prevention: Banned assault style weapons and high capacity magazines, strengthened school safety, and increased mental health access.

Emergency Energy Assistance for Low-Income Minnesotans: Emergency state aid replacing federal cuts for those hardest hit by President Trump's energy crisis.

Regulations on Private Equity in Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care: Reining in private equity takeover and exploitation of seniors in nursing homes and assisted living.

Puppy Mill Ban: Cutting off the puppy mill pipeline with retail dog sales reform.

Strengthening Conversion Therapy Ban: Ensuring Minnesota's ban stays in place in light of continued attacks from the right-wing Supreme Court.

Defending Progress

President Trump and his Republican allies in the Minnesota House tried to rollback the clock, but we held our ground on the progress we made in 2023-2024.

Thanks to our work, we protected:

We know the attacks will continue, but we will not compromise on our values and will defend our communities.
